Dear Madam/Sir,

We would like to announce that our first Birds@Farmland EU Workshop will take place online on 25th June 2021, 9:30 – 15:30 (tentative hours).

Many farmland bird species have undergone a major decline over the last decades. Restoring healthy populations requires large-scale action involving all concerned partners. It is a requirement of the Birds Directive, an objective of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and can deliver many benefits, also for farming. It will also contribute to the achievement of the objective of the Common Agricultural Policy on biodiversity.

The Birds@Farmland initiative of the European Commission aims to support all Member States in conserving wild birds living in agricultural landscapes. In collaboration with all concerned people, in particular stakeholders and authorities, it will develop twenty farmland bird conservation schemes in ten Member States based on suitable agricultural and land management practices . The conservation schemes will then be available for implementation or adaptation in any Member State (e.g. CAP Strategic Plans, LIFE project, etc.).

During the workshop, we will present the objectives and preliminary results of the initiative. We will also discuss the best options to draft efficient and attractive conservation schemes to protect and restore farmland birds in the EU, building on the experience of all EU Member States.

This online workshop is part of the Birds@Farmland Initiative and is organised by the project consortium on behalf of the European Commission. We invite representatives of competent authorities, as well as of NGOs, farm advisory services, farming, hunting, and landowners associations, and other relevant actors to participate in the workshop.

The workshop will be held in English by the project consortium on behalf of the European Commission.
